Please welcome today’s featured author, Emma Ames.
Have you ever gotten “too big for your britches?” I’m not talking literally, even though in the past couple of years, I’ve certainly done that! No, I’m talking figuratively, where your ego tells you to do something, only to find out later, you shouldn’t have been listening to it. Bad ego.
Toby Keith wrote a country song that says something like…my body says you can’t do this, but my pride says, oh, yes you can! Well, my pride spoke loud and clear right after I rang in 2019. (I was sober by the way in case any of you are wondering) I had a brainstorm to re-write some of my books, (something I’d been encouraged to do by my writing group) taking the steamy parts out, and making them into ‘nicer, cleaner,’ reads. Sounded simple enough. Heck, the books were already written, how hard could it be?
Oh, did I mention I was also writing a new book at the same time? Including it, that would make 5 books I’d be working on. Re-writing three and doing two versions of the new book. One hot. One not. I vowed to have them all published by the end of the year. As of this writing, I have less than 60 days to meet that goal. I’m down to editing book five, so there is a glimmer at the end of the tunnel but I’m not sure I’ll reach it.
Making such a snap decision is unlike me. I usually take a long time with decisions about everything from what I order in a restaurant to buying new furniture. I’m not sure what came over me. However, I learned a lesson—to NEVER do this again!!
I’m also a very organized person, so once I commit to something, I’ll work day and night to achieve it. My daughter claims I have a bit of OCD. I think she may be right because the pressure is building as I race toward my self-imposed deadline. Wish me luck.
Have you ever gotten too big for your britches? Bit off more than you can chew? Feel free to rant!
About Emma’s latest book: Secrets, Lies, and Homemade Pie — A #Texas #murder #mystery with down-home characters and rollicking #humor.
Tizzy Donovan is having a run of bad luck. A bakery delivery gone wrong. A bar fight with an old classmate. The discovery of a dead body in the cemetery.
Texas Ranger Ridge Cooper’s luck isn’t much better. He’s finally gotten his first solo case, and it’s in the Podunk town of Brownsboro, Texas. But when he meets local beauty, Tizzy, he thinks his luck is about to change—until she becomes the prime suspect in his case!
“SECRETS, LIES, AND HOMEMADE PIES isn’t just another run-of-the-mill grim murder mystery. This tale of rural Texas is laced with an undercurrent of down-home characters and rollicking humor.”
