I love food, not quite as much as I love writing or my husband, but food is a pretty close second. It doesn’t even have to be particularly good food, although I’ll throw out bad food quicker than you can blink. But let’s pause for a moment and think about bad food. Generally, the phrase is taken to mean food that has spoiled and/or that would make you sick if you ate it. The second part of that general meaning is pretty vague. What makes you sick is not always the same thing that makes me sick. Examples include wheat and peanut allergies or chronic diseases like Diabetes.
I am a ‘type 2’ or ‘adult onset’ diabetic. Check out the American Diabetes Association, if you want to know exactly what that means. What it means for me personally is that I am always thinking about food. My thinking involves how to balance food that is good for me, but may not be as flavorful as I like with the salty, sugary good tasting foods that are really very bad for me. This is a constant struggle. But believe me, the struggle is worth it. The alternative—let’s just I wouldn’t be here writing to you, if I’d given up.
