Hello and welcome to “At First Sight Saturday.” Today’s guest is author, Judythe Morgan, who gives us a ‘first sight’ scene from her book Seeing Clearly and introduces us to hero, Dawson McKey, and heroine, Evie Parker. Be sure to leave a comment to let Judythe know your thoughts about the scene.
Excerpt: “I don’t know about you, but I could use a nap. I remember if you don’t sleep when they do, you don’t sleep.”
“You got that right.” Dawson laughed. “And you have been working non-stop.”
She tipped her water bottle in salute. “So have you. Thank you.”
“Lie back.” He swung her feet into his lap. “I’ll get him if he wakes up.”
Evie gave a barely perceivable flinch. His action wasn’t flirtatious and didn’t surprise her. He’d been offering backrubs, preparing meals, and folding laundry for her while she adjusted to life with a toddler again. Same as he guided her on running the business at Parker.
She’d become chairman of the board when her husband died. Her son had seen to the day-to-day operation. That would fall on her shoulders again unless she convinced Dawson to become general manager.
She rested her head on the arm of the couch, her feet in his lap. They sat that way, not talking, for several long minutes before Dawson untied her shoelaces and dropped her running shoes to the floor.
His thumbs worked the soles of her feet. She wiggled her toes. “Ticklish?”
“No.”
“Then relax.”
Not so easy for a forty-seven year old grandmother faced with raising her toddler grandson.
She forced herself to visualize a beach, hear the ebb and flow of the ocean waves. A technique she’d taught her therapy clients to use when they needed to decompress. The slow rhythmic motion of his fingertips rolled through her like waves washing away footprints from the sand.
He moved his fingers between her toes. First one foot then the other. His thumbs pressed the ball of her foot then his hand went around her ankles in a gentle massage.
“Your fingers are magic.” Her voice became muffled and drowsy.

Dawson shifted her feet from his lap. “Roll over. I’ll work on your neck.”
He knelt beside the couch while she shifted to rest her cheek on her crossed arms. Her eyes closed as his thumbs pressed circular patterns across her hard-as-a-canyon-cliff shoulders. The tightness dissolved beneath his fingertips. He willed the tightness gripping his body to do the same.
Her breathing slowed to a steady beat, and Dawson knew she slept. He sat back on his heels and watched her.
After Liz left, he vowed he’d never let another woman in his life. His best friend and ex-partner Art Valero warned him at thirty-five he was too young to give up on women. Art had been right. Evelyn Parker was blowing his vow to smithereens.
Blurb: Ex-cop Dawson McKey is consumed by revenge after a cartel’s bomb kills his twin sons. He trusts no one and vows payback. He refuses to get close to anyone, let alone fall in love again. But widow Evie Parker challenges his thinking. She’s raising her grandson after her only child and his wife die in a suspicious car accident and it’s taking a toll. Alarms go off in Dawson’s head when Evie receives threatening emails concerning her grandson. Then Evie’s nanny disappears with Evie’s grandson. He knows something is deadly wrong. The search for the toddler pushes Dawson and Evie to their limits. Can they see clearly enough to find the toddle and each other?
