Welcome to my first What’s the Story Wednesday. My inaugural guest is friend and fellow romance author Alina K. Field. She’s selected the Five Easy Questions Author Interview in order to tell us about herself and her story, Under the Champagne Moon a novella by Alina K. Field, from Under the Harvest Moon, a Bluestocking Belles with Friends Collection @AlinaKField, @BluestockingBelles #RLFblog #ReadaRegency.
About Under the Champagne Moon: A returning soldier must choose between honoring a promise or pursuing the woman he loves.
Orphaned as a child by the French Revolution, Fleur Hardouin’s road has not been easy. Homeless again, she seeks an advantageous marriage as a matter of security. But when she crosses paths with a handsome young captain who, years ago, came to her rescue, she must choose between her heart’s desire and practicality.
Saved from French troops by a French vintner, Gareth Ardleigh promised to find his rescuer’s granddaughter, Fleur, for a marriage that will unite two branches of the family business. But when he finds her, he must choose between honoring a promise or pursuing the woman he loves.
Now for Alina’s personal story:
What is your go-to meal when you dine out? Good question! It depends on the restaurant, of course. I like ethnic food and am blessed to live in an area where I can get almost anything. So here we go: if it’s Italian, I like a cheesy chicken alfredo. If Mexican, I like carnitas. If Chinese, I prefer orange chicken. If Korean, beef bulgogi. If American, a very small steak. The one thing I’ll never order is fish, unless it’s breaded and deep fried and doesn’t taste at all like seafood.
Describe the perfect vacation. While I love the mountains, especially when I find peace, quiet, and modern amenities (as in no camping required), my most perfect vacation will always involve visiting museums and historical sites, anywhere in the world.
What are your hobbies? I like to sew and knit. Since I can’t fit a garment to save my life, I mostly make easy things like pillowcases and afghans.
When you read for pleasure, what kinds of books do you choose? I love historical romance and historical mystery, any era except Victorian. I don’t much care for Victorian, and I think subconsciously it might have something to do with those big ugly gowns, ala Scarlett O’Hara, lol!
What kinds of things do you read when you’re researching a new book? I read archived newspapers from the era, old books that I find scanned on googlebooks or Project Gutenberg, nonfiction on the subject being researched, memoirs and letters, and other things like unpublished dissertations that are sometimes available online.

About Alina K. Field: USA Today bestselling author Alina K. Field earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and German literature but prefers the happier world of romance fiction. Her roots are in the Midwestern U.S., but after six very, very, very cold years in Chicago, she moved to Southern California where she shares a midcentury home with a golden-eyed terrier and a feisty chihuahua and only occasionally misses snow.
